About Dothan Printing & Litho
In December 1960, after serving in the Air Force during the Korean War and finishing his degree at Florida State University, Dorsey Rhodes and his wife Sara moved their young family from Tallahassee, Florida to Dothan, Alabama and established Dothan Printing on January 1, 1961. Their vision was to operate a full service printing business to provide quality printing with a professional and timely service. They opened their business on Adams Street in downtown Dothan and printed the first four-color process job ever printed in Dothan in 1962. Having outgrown that location by 1965, they moved into a larger facility on North St. Andrews Street.
In 1972, after again outgrowing their facility, they built and moved into the current facility at 955 Tate Drive, and the company was incorporated as Dothan Printing & Litho, Inc in that year. During this period of growth, Dorsey and Sara maintained their demand for quality work from their staff and themselves, and continued to add customers from New York to California. The company’s print capability increased with the addition of Heidelberg presses, pre-press and post-press equipment, giving us the finest printing equipment with which to produce our award-winning printing. In 1991, their oldest son, Tim and his wife Bonnie, moved their family back to Dothan after Tim had served several years as an electrical engineer in the aerospace industry with IBM Federal Systems Division, NASA and Martin Marietta, working in the Space Shuttle Program and the preliminary design stage of Space Station Freedom.
With Tim’s expertise in the technical arena, Dothan Printing & Litho moved into a more modern era of print production, which brought higher fidelity and quality of print through technical advances made in the print industry. Tim has continually worked to streamline print production, reducing overhead costs and minimizing expenses in print production. These efforts have put Dothan Printing & Litho in a position to provide our customers with the finest in quality print while keeping their printing costs reasonable. While many printers have moved into non-traditional printing work such as signs and banners (which adds to their overhead), Dothan Printing & Litho has stuck to the one thing it does best - putting ink on paper and giving the best printed product for our customer. As a result, Dothan Printing and Litho still prints for some of our customers that we opened with in 1961, and we continue to add new customers each year.
